1 Peter 1:1,2 Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, To the pilgrims of the Dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace to you and peace be multiplied.

Peter introduces this epistle by first telling us who he is; an apostle of Jesus Christ and tells us that those he was writing too, who were going through trials and persecution that they were the elect or chosen of God. They are elect in three senses; first in foreknowledge of the Father from eternity past, second in growing in the Holy Spirit and to live in obedilence to Jesus Christ. Peter said all this on the outset because of its importance; before he even says grace and mercy or hello.

It is so important to understand that we are chosen of God before we were even born and that being chosen; that God has a plan for us and a good work for us to to.
